The Motorola Moto G7 & Moto G7 Plus
Seven months on from the Moto G7 lineup’s debut it seems Motorola has already commenced work on the next-gen Moto G8 series. The folks over at XDA Developers recently unearthed information about the Moto G8 Play and now they’re back with new findings that relate to a separate model.Understood to be either the Moto G8 or Moto G8 Plus, sources suggest the smartphone is currently in the prototyping stage with a 6.3-inch, 19:9 Full-HD+ (2280 x 1080p) display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665. Compared to the Moto G7’s Snapdragon 632, the latter should introduce both efficiency and performance improvements coupled with noticeably better on-device AI processing and a newer image signaling processor (ISP) which should translate into higher quality photos.
Speaking of photos, the Moto G8-branded device in question will apparently feature a 48-megapixel f/1.79 primary camera that uses
pixel binning technology to create a better 12-megapixel shot. This should be coupled with a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera that supports a 94º field of view and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Also, for all those selfie fans out there, a 25-megapixel front-facing camera has made the cut.
Circling back to the internal side of things, the Moto G8 or G8 Plus looks set to ship with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage as standard although 4/128GB, 6/64GB, and 6/128GB configurations are certainly possible. But regardless of the option chosen, microSD card support of up to 1TB is to be expected. Completing the setup should be 4G LTE and NFC support paired with a dual-SIM slot. The device is currently running Android 9 Pie but an update to
Android 10 before launch is to be expected. Lastly, a huge 4,000mAh battery is reportedly part of the package.
The Moto G8 or Moto G8 Plus will likely be made official in early 2020 alongside the Moto G8
Play and any other Moto G8-branded devices Motorola may be working on. Availability details are yet to be confirmed but the smartphone should be sold in at least red and blue.
